Overview
A university extension project with real social impact: democratizing healthcare access for residents of Londrina. Built an AI-powered symptom pre-screening chatbot via OpenAI, an interactive map of nearby healthcare facilities via Leaflet, real-time health news, and a disease reference guide. Deployed on Oracle Cloud.
The Challenge
Designing an AI symptom checker that is safe and helpful without providing definitive medical diagnoses, while seamlessly guiding users to the appropriate nearby healthcare facilities.
Key Technical Decisions
- OpenAI API with strict system prompts to constrain the chatbot to triage rather than diagnosis.
- Leaflet.js for rendering lightweight, interactive maps that plot user location against city health centers.
- Firebase for real-time data sync and rapid deployment without managing complex infrastructure.
Results
Deployed on Oracle Cloud as a functional MVP. It successfully demonstrated how technology can bridge the gap between citizens and public health resources during our university showcase.
